The natural rejuvenating energies of the Indian Ocean
surf, the gently sloping rice terraces and the invigorating sea air
make this a sanctum for a complete, 'get away from it all' holiday.
Restful quiet, superb food and total comfort.

As
our 'transport' turned the corner, we caught our first sight of Waka
Gangga, sitting solidly on the edge of a sparkling black sand beach.
The tall, twin 'alang alang' spires jutting skyward from high stone
walls.
The short walk to reception took us up to gentle slope; the wide pebbled
ramp leading to a cool, open space, with views across a lawn-edged
swimming pool to the breakers of the Indian Ocean Surf.
As our bags were being taken to our hillside bungalow, we explored
the resort. A luxurious spa building houses massage rooms and other
pampering services. But the biggest surprise awaited us at the top
of the wide stone steps leading to the restaurant.
Here we sat, like on a castle battlement, with the feeling of power
that comes from such a commanding view. The Indian ocean stretched
as far as the eye could see, and as we watched, the setting sun slowly
melted into the horizon. Our dinner was served by candlelight with
the soft sounds of a 'rindik' bamboo xylophone blending with the thudding
of the surf on the beach.
At night, the bungalow is an island of light in the
darkness. The wonderfully comfortable king-sized bed in the centre
of the room is shrouded in soft mosquito netting. And the curtained
windows gave a feeling of privacy - even though we knew there were
no people around to peer in. In the morning, we woke to clear sunlit
day. Pulling back the curtains, we were presented with a 180 degree
view out over the ocean.
Sensitive
people will tell you that this place has great energy. Believe them
! The great strength of the ocean creates a special feeling of rejuvenation.
You can feel it if you just sit quietly. Our morning Bali coffee was
made in the glass coffee plunger in the room, and we enjoyed it on
our private platform, with its comfortable wooden bench and table,
and its amazing panoramic views.
The twelve bungalows and two villas of WakaGangga perch
on gently sloping rice terraces which fringe a sparkling black sand
beach on the edge of the Indian Ocean. Local stables provide horses
for a mystic ride on the seemingly endless beach and the famous Tanah
Lot temple, one of Bali's most sacred places, is only a few minutes
away.
Same style with other Waka resort, you are surrounded
by the textures and colours of nature; dressed slate; tiles; smooth
unpainted wood; soft homespun fabrics; intricately worked copper;
fragrant alang-alang grass roofing; natural bamboo; rough cut stone;
flowers and foliage.
