Location
In the lush highlands of Bali, at more then 1,000 metres
above sea level, the Bali Handara Kosaido Country Club
is blessed with the perfect climate (average daily temperature
of 16-20 °) for a round of golf on this beautiful
tropical island.
Nestled in the crater of a volcano, the
course is one of the most challenging in Asia and is a
treat for the discerning golfer.
With 77 rooms and Bungalows on site, Being
a good two-hour drive from Denpasar, sees that the majority
of visiting players stay in the resorts hotel and bungalow
facilities. The resort is perfect for a mid-week break
or weekend retreat.
The
Course
The 450-yard, par 4, 3rd doglegs left, its fairway being
divided by a stream that rushes off the mountain behind.
The stream winds its way along the right of the first
fairway, cutting it off from the shorter second fairway,
offset to the right. The second shot must carry across
the water to the long green far beyond.
The 15th, a par 5 of 500 yards, is both
demanding and memorable. A bunker sitting right in the
heart of the fairway. One of the few sandtraps on the
course that confounds reckless tee shots. It is not easy
to conquer this one in two shots. However, big hitters
may manage the distance.
Opening in 1974, Bali Handara was masterfully
de- signed by international golfing architect Peter Thompson.
It was the first 18-hole course in Bali to capture the
tourist market and cater for domestic businessmen.
In 1981, Golf Magazine named it as 'One
of the 50 Greatest Holes in the World' and since then
it has enjoyed a reputation of being a panoramic green.
The 100-hectare course is fairly demanding with the longest
green in Bali.
It boasts a remarkable variety of trees
and plants and has a stunning view of the mystical Bunyan
Lake. The clear scenery and mountain backdrop creates
a relaxed environment and players don't seem overly taxed
by the course or its conditions.
The last three holes are especially difficult
to finish and are where many players face their downfall
in the game.
Back in 1995 Japanese famous female golfer,
Ms Ayoko Okamoto, enjoyed a game at Bali Handara while
taking a break from the professional circuit.
Recently Bali Handara has become involved
in charitiable activities and in June participated in
a program with the Botanical Gardens in Bedugul to make
a day trip for a group of orphans. The next major event
on Bali Handara's calendar is the 15'h Senior Open Tournament
covering three days in October with all players over the
age of 55 years.
Facilities
18-hole championship course designed Peter Thompson, Michael
Wolveridge and Associates. Multiple tees ranging up to
6,432 yards - Par 72. The course is surounded by the green
mountain forming green walls, connecting the earth and
sky.

Rooms and bungalows combine Balinese-styled decor with
modern comfort. All rooms are equipped with pricate bathroom,
an adjustable heater, satellite television and also fireplaces
to keep the chilly evenings at bay.
